Nursing Student Experiences

At ÌÇÐÄVlog, your nursing education begins with real experience from day one. Starting freshman year, you’ll step into clinical settings, practice hands-on skills, and begin developing the confidence you need to care for patients with excellence.

Through simulations, clinical rotations, global service opportunities, and community within your cohort, you’ll grow academically, professionally, and spiritually as you learn to use nursing as your ministry for Christ.

Simulations

Before you ever face high-pressure clinical situations, you’ll practice in Cedarville’s state-of-the-art simulation labs. Using realistic, life-sized simulators, you’ll develop clinical judgment and decision-making skills in safe, true-to-life scenarios that mirror today’s healthcare environments.

During simulation experiences, you’ll integrate classroom knowledge with physical assessment skills and collaborate with classmates as part of a healthcare team. After each simulation, you’ll participate in guided reflection with trained faculty members who will help you strengthen your critical thinking and confidence.

Located in the Health Sciences Center, Cedarville’s simulation facilities are led by nationally recognized faculty who are certified in healthcare simulation education. These experiences are intentionally designed to help you grow not only in clinical skill but also in your ability to care for patients’ spiritual, physical, and emotional needs from a biblical perspective.

You’ll also gain hands-on experience using an electronic medical records (EMR) system, preparing you to document and communicate effectively in modern healthcare settings.

Clinical Experiences

At Cedarville, you begin clinical experiences in the spring semester of your freshman year. From the start, you’ll step into real healthcare environments where you can apply what you’re learning in the classroom and build confidence in patient care.

Over the course of four years, you’ll complete clinical rotations at multiple hospitals and healthcare facilities. You’ll gain exposure to a variety of specialties and patient populations, including acute care, community and public health nursing, primary care, school nursing, occupational health, and faith-based ministries.

As a senior, you’ll participate in a preceptorship experience, working one-on-one with a practicing registered nurse in an immersive, full-time setting. Throughout your clinical journey, you’ll travel to sites alongside your nursing cohort — building close friendships, learning to collaborate, and supporting one another along the way.

Each experience prepares you to serve as a capable, compassionate member of the healthcare team, ready to meet both the clinical and spiritual needs of your patients.

Global Impact and Mission Experience

If you feel called to serve beyond your local community, you’ll have opportunities to participate in medical mission trips during the fall, spring, and summer breaks. These one- to five-week trips allow you to serve alongside faculty members and medical professionals in diverse healthcare settings around the world.

Recent medical GO trip destinations have included the Dominican Republic, Honduras, Guatemala, Malawi, Peru, Costa Rica, Eswatini, the Philippines, and Togo. Teams have assisted with hospital care, community clinics, labor and delivery support, pediatrics, and public health outreach.

Through these experiences, you’ll grow in cultural awareness, adaptability, and compassion — learning to use nursing as a ministry for Christ.

Student Opportunities

Your growth at Cedarville extends beyond the classroom and clinical setting. Through student organizations and leadership opportunities, you can deepen your professional development and build lasting connections.

Nursing Student Organizations

Male Nursing Society

The Male Nursing Society exists to equip male nurses to excel as servant-leaders, advocates, and caregivers who imitate Christ, upholding excellence and integrity in healthcare through service, mentorship, community, and education. This vision is achieved through the various activities of the organization that include service projects, dinners, leadership seminars, and retreats. Any of this organization's public events are open to men and women.

Nursing Honor Society - Sigma Theta Tau (NHS)

ÌÇÐÄVlog's Nursing Honor Society - Sigma Theta Tau (NHS) is an organization made up of the top 35% of students in the junior and senior classes of the School of Nursing. The mission of the Nursing Honors Society is to glorify God and share the light of Jesus Christ through advancing evidence-based practice, recognizing nursing excellence both in current students and nurse leaders, and fostering a Christian community of healthcare workers. We do this by recognizing those students who are leaders in their class and providing them with opportunities to lead, grow, advance their evidence-based practice, receive and provide mentorship, and serve in their community.

Student Nurses Association (SNA)

We seek to engage the nursing students in community and service. We plan social events for the nursing majors, create nursing merchandise, and organize service projects!
